This is just brilliant. Made me laugh and made me nod
I've just written a book called The Self-Awareness Superhighway: Charting Your Leadership Journey, because we're constantly changing and neither we or anything around us stays the same
Thanks so much for your kind words Dr Thomas. I try add some humour to my writing so I'm very glad that the article had its intended effect. Bog congratulations on the new book. I'd love to write a book one day.
Wow what a story haha - Crazy to see how we can change so much, and yet be so certain that who we are now is who we are always going to be.... your story really shines a light on that. The graph is truly eye-opening... there must be some sort of cognitive bias going on for sure!
Haha love that boardroom meeting story (great gifs btw), soo typical of wannabe "founders".
But probably one of the worst things in life is to look back and NOT feel cringe... Not growing (AND not even realising it!) is definitely a mark of a lost life.
Thanks Rob - I'd noticed a recurring idea of how I "now know better than I did" compared to my past self. As that idea re-occurs, I would then think and conclude that if it wasn't true last time, then it probably isn't true this time. It's good to have a label to add to this.

You hit the nail on the head!!!

Thanks for reading and the comment Zan.
I asked Chat GPT: Is there a cognitive bias linked to the end of history illusion?
The response: Yes, the end of history illusion is linked to a cognitive bias known as the "end-of-history effect."
🤣
Hahaha - love that 😂
Ever since watching this TED talk ("paradox of continuity" was a term the speaker used, I believe), I've been thinking about how much I've changed and how naive it is to believe I won't change nearly as much in the future: https://www.ted.com/talks/shankar_vedantam_you_don_t_actually_know_what_your_future_self_wants/
Thanks for comment and link Ulrich. I’ll check it out 🙏
I just watched it again ... he actually mentions "the end of history" 😉
very entertaining read - thanks Rob :)
Thanks Nic 🙏 You had a lot of exposure to Ntwadumela Rob 🤣
yes, yes, indeed - entertaining and nostalgic!

PS - I find that your comments always have a unique and thought provoking take on things. Thanks for that.
I can't take full credit for all of them haha but that's so nice to hear, thanks Rob! 😃
Thanks Prince. Very true. All good things start cringe. My first few newsletters were pretty cringe. Looking back, this may be quite cringe.
Thanks for the shout out!
It's a pleasure Walther. I really resonated with the article.

Great to hear from you Matt! I hope you are keeping well. Thanks for reading.
